Volunteer to be a Turkey Drive Promoter!
You would be stationed at different Loblaw locations across Toronto during the beginning of December to ask customers to purchase a turkey and donate it to Second Harvest. Eric Rubenzahl, a well-known student here at York Mills, recently won five academic awards for French Immersion, French Immersion math, French Immersion history, Spanish, as well as Science. He grew up in an, “extremely supportive” family where “academic success was very important.” Eric finds the drive of being successful is what motivates him to continue working hard and pushing himself to do better. He dedicates his weekdays to doing homework and watching Netflix, while also finding a balance with his social life by spending time with family and hanging out with his friends on weekends. If you happen to walk along the music hall after school on Wednesdays, you may have been stopped by the beautiful music that flows out of the band room. The door might have been closed, but you can still see the lights inside where the wonderful music was created. When I was asked to help coach the junior girls basketball team, I couldn’t have been more thrilled. After the tryouts, I knew we’d have a good team, but I wasn’t ready for what was to come. This week, the girls finished their regular season games defeating all other six schools in the TDSB North Region and placing first in their division. They defeated schools such as Downsview 51-2, Emory 37-2, and William Lyon Mackenzie 34-10. Ultimately proving to our school and many others, they’re a force to be reckoned with.

If you are a returning student to York Mills, you have probably seen artwork displayed around the school. You can find it hanging in the library, in the display cases, and outside the office. Most of the art is done by the senior classes: the grade elevens, and twelves. One of the most prominent ones are the large charcoal compositions.
