Last week, many Junior Achievement (JA) companies had the opportunity to show York Mills the product they had been working on for the last few months. Junior Achievement is an organization that aims to provide students with the opportunity to start their own company and experience what it feels like to be an entrepreneur. Each company is led by a group of well-trained professionals which help to guide your company and teach each company member tips towards creating a successful company.

This year, York Mills Collegiate Institute was able to be the host school for the provincial swim competition of 2019. On March 5th and 6th, many were able to go out to Scarborough Pan Am Centre and compete in multiple events like the 50-metre fly, girls senior and junior medley relays, and more.

After a short one-week March Break, students had to say goodbye to the relaxed holiday and returned to normal school life. For many, getting up early in the morning may be the toughest thing for the first week back, and the things that we do in the morning often determine what the rest of the day will be like. A good morning routine is important as it grants people a day full of productivity and peace of mind, and what do students at York Mills usually do to refresh themselves in the morning?
The Junior Girls Volleyball Season

Last week, the junior girls’ volleyball team played an arduous match, earning them a silver city championships medal. The team consisted of Alice Svirydau, Erin Ricaloglu, Megan Wong, Caitlyn Lee, Hannalee Liu, Sarah Chepeisky, Dalya Tasli, Ioana Lauric, Tessa McDonald, Ellie Martin, Latoya Simms, and Victoria Stavropoulos. They played a long season beginning in November while playing many tournaments against schools such as Georges Vanier, Sir John A. Macdonald, and Don Mills. The coaches, Vivian Chan, Melody Muere and Ken Sue-A-Quon trained and instructed the girls on different skills, techniques, and strategies.

Two weeks ago, over 20 people from York Mills’ team competed at the Toronto Sheraton Centre for the provincial DECA competition. DECA is an organization which provides students with the opportunity to have real-life scenarios and learning opportunities in business categories such as management, marketing, and entrepreneurship.

An Adventure In The Dream — History and Drama Field Trip
