Chinese New Year: Traditions and Traditional Snacks

Chinese New Year, or Spring Festival, is the most important festival for Chinese people. Walking on the streets in China, you can always find a lot of festive atmosphere when it comes to the Spring Festival- stalls selling firecrackers, snacks or decorations are everywhere, and the sidewalks are bustling with people. The date of CNY varies based on each year’s calendar, and in 2019, it falls on February 5, beginning the year of the pig. Similar to the celebrations of the New Year in other countries, Chinese New Year is all about the hopeful spirit of renewal.

The York Mills Tennis Team

York Mills has a phenomenal tennis team consisting of many experienced tennis players such as Ali Ersoy and Justin Cheung. York Mills’s tennis team provides players with an amazing opportunity to gain experience and be part of a team. This Fall, York Mills took a tough loss against Lawrence Park. However, in the Spring, York Mills has another chance to defeat them. I had the opportunity to interview Justin Cheung about his experiences on the York Mills tennis team and the 2018 Fall tennis season.

YM Cozy Project

One of the many clubs offered in York Mills includes the Cozy Project. They consist of a group of generous and hardworking students that devote their time to helping the homeless. Their goal is to raise money to provide necessities for the homeless, especially for the long and cold winter in Canada. I had the opportunity to interview one of the members in the Cozy Project.
Pyjama Day – Spirit Week
Spirit Week at YM is exciting to say the least. This year to start it off, Stuco planned an amazing pyjama day where everyone was to come straight to school feeling like they never got out of bed. What a better way to walk into school Monday morning than learning that it’s Pyjama Day! Just don’t be so ready to fall asleep in class no matter how tempting.

Spirit Week: Groufit Day

Spirit Week is a yearly event that York Mills Student Council members host. This years Spirit Week consisted of a four different themes in the week; Pyjama day, Twin day, Groufit day, and Holiday sweater day. This year’s theme for Day 3 of Spirit Week was Groutfit day and it turned out to be great success! Many students and teachers participated in this event.
