What makes a team successful? Well, our very own York Mills Senior Boys Soccer team is a great example and we will look at their success to answer this question. Working hard, being committed and focused, and having discipline are just a few qualities that brings this team their success.

Thursday, November 1st
Thursday, November 1st, marked the day that YMAC hosted the Basketball Intramural Final during lunch in the double gym. A lot of students came in and cheered for their favorite teams. The two teams, including 4 starters and 1 bench player per team, brought the audience a wonderful and fiery 15-minute game. Even though there was a various of difficulties and conflicts during the game, team members from both sides stayed calm and handled them very well as a group. The game ended with a score of 26-20 which announced the winner of YMCI Basketball Intramurals — “Jelly Fam”! After a total of five games of the season, including two preliminaries, a quarter, semi-final, and final, the hard work and excellent skills of “Jelly Fam” have finally made them the champion of the Intramurals.

Eric Rubenzahl, a well-known student here at York Mills, recently won five academic awards for French Immersion, French Immersion math, French Immersion history, Spanish, as well as Science. He grew up in an, “extremely supportive” family where “academic success was very important.” Eric finds the drive of being successful is what motivates him to continue working hard and pushing himself to do better. He dedicates his weekdays to doing homework and watching Netflix, while also finding a balance with his social life by spending time with family and hanging out with his friends on weekends. If you happen to walk along the music hall after school on Wednesdays, you may have been stopped by the beautiful music that flows out of the band room. The door might have been closed, but you can still see the lights inside where the wonderful music was created. If you are wondering, it is our school’s Symphonic Band weekly rehearsal happening in the band room.

When I was asked to help coach the junior girls basketball team, I couldn’t have been more thrilled. After the tryouts, I knew we’d have a good team, but I wasn’t ready for what was to come. This week, the girls finished their regular season games defeating all other six schools in the TDSB North Region and placing first in their division. They defeated schools such as Downsview 51-2, Emory 37-2, and William Lyon Mackenzie 34-10. Ultimately proving to our school and many others, they’re a force to be reckoned with.
