In order to celebrate the Halloween spirit at York Mills C.I, Newcomers club hosted a Pumpkin Carving Contest. The club’s members created teams beforehand and came up with team names. On November 6, ‘Take your child to work day’ took place across Canada. With more than 250 000 students participating this year, we got to experience a day in the work field of our parents. My experience was rather very interesting and enjoyable. I followed my mother who works as a manager of student services at an international school of Screen Shot 2019-11-24 at 2.16.51 PMlanguage learning, ILSC. It is a company located across Canada and Australia. It invites students as young as eight years old to come to Canada and learn English in an English-speaking country. The students would spend one or two semesters here doing sightseeing in the morning and classes in the afternoon.

“What’s a mummy’s favourite genre of music? Wrap music !”

This year, the grade 12 Business Management Class collaborated with the DD program to create two brand new events.

Many of us students at York Mills either have jobs or have considered applying for jobs to gain further work experience and to earn money. But, do we know our rights as student-employees? To test students on their legal knowledge and to educate them about the laws on student employment, the Law Council hosted their first Kahoot game on Friday October 25th in Titan Hall.

What do you call a rock that never goes to school? A skipping stone!

Screen Shot 2019-11-03 at 2.23.09 PM.pngBeing in Mrs. Wong’s Earth and Space, this class is trained to constantly identify rocks, and try to learn as much about everyone we see. Earth and Space is a Grade twelve course, where we focus on earth materials, geologic history, and exploring all of space. We were excited for our very first field trip to sit in on Lectures, mini-classes ran by University of Toronto students, and tours of the St. George Campus, taking place on Thursday, October 10th.

Everyone had paid the fees, ran through the instructions, and all arrived on time (except me totally getting lost… photos are important) to our first class, Geologic Hazards in the Earth Sciences Department. Adventures (Field Trips) always start with rules. So we all were strictly told to look like university students, to look like we belonged in the building, not jumping around as York Mills students’ second nature. Next year, we would be running downtown in the morning regardless.
