Astrid takes drop-in ballet classes at the Walter Carsen Center for the National Ballet of Canada. She has danced in the Nutcracker for a few years.

“I got to be a part of Nutcracker with an open-call audition for the battle-scene. That was the only scene students could do. Dancing on stage was very overwhelming. I felt the pressure to match my peers in such a professional environment; it was intimidating. Keeping up with the other dancers was difficult. It was very high-caliber, the dance was complex, the costumes were heavy, but overall the experience was worth it. To be able to see everything behind the scenes of such a big production was an experience I wouldn’t trade for the world.”

BOH ZUMBA THURSDAY

By: Katelyn Law

Nov 28,2019

Stress can be the downfall of many students in high school. A way to relieve the stress is to do Zumba! The BOH class recognized this and decided to create an event during their Mental Health Week just for this. The event ran on Thursday, all through lunch and students were able to drop in whenever they had time. There was loud music and darkness so that students would be able to focus on the Zumba moves and not their surroundings. The BOH class had YouTube videos and Zumba classes and everyone was following along. It worked-up quite a sweat for many people as Zumba is a fast-paced exercise that incorporates dance moves.  It gives people a good workout and a place to feel relaxed. It has become a popular way for people to work out and relax as popular upbeat music is always being played and the steps are normally quite simple and easy to follow.
