Every year, York Mills’ Student Council hosts a spirit week filled with dress up as various themes and it is always a great success. The first day to ease into STUCO’s spirit week was Pyjama Day. Day 2 of Spirit Week was a highly anticipated and exciting day of students and teachers dressing up as each other. Twin Day consisted of pairs and groups of friends (and actual twins) wearing matching clothes to twin with each other throughout the day.

With twinkling lights overhead, the sound of holiday music bouncing off the wall, the amazing smell of various food, the taste of warm, mulled drinks, and the laughter and holiday cheers of students the cafeteria was completely transformed into Winter Wonderland on Thursday, December 13.

The Senior Boys volleyball team continues to impress York Mills once again by qualifying for OFSAA for the 3rd year in a row. This year it took place from Thursday Nov. 22 – Saturday Nov. 24 in Windsor. The team was ranked 6th overall out of 20 teams before the tournament started. I was able to ask Mr Kung about what happened during those 3 days, and how the team ended up finishing second in the province. Continue reading SENIOR BOYS VOLLEYBALL OFSAA

It has been an exciting November with soccer intramurals at lunch. Students gathered in the double gym to watch and cheer for the teams as they watched to see which team was going to be the champion. It started with six teams: Barely Legal, Joonho’s Jetta, Trainrunners, Team Saleh, Bench Mob, and Asian Invasion. One by one, each team was eliminated until the finals on November 29th. Joonho’s Jetta reigned victorious after a hard-fought game against Team Saleh.
One of the players from Team Saleh was available to share some insight on the games and answered a few questions:
Q: Why do you like soccer intramurals?
A: Soccer intramurals gives me a chance to play soccer with different people and it helps me improve my skills without all the pressure I would have during the regular season soccer.
Q: What would you say is your favourite memory from soccer intramurals?
A: Rod doing the ZEZE dance during a game.

December 3rd was International Day of Persons with Disabilities (IDPD). This day was proclaimed by the United Nations in 1992, to promote the rights of all people with disabilities but also ensure that society is aware to treat them equally and respectfully.

A good mind is vital to get you through the day Titans! It’s important to remember to take a break when you feel stressed out. Breathe a little or treat yourself and don’t be so hard on yourself. This is a message that was emphasized by the BOH class during their self-organized mental health awareness week (which was a huge success btw!).

Many people may dislike December for its harsh wintry weather, but there are many great things that are overseen. Yes, the icy winds are unpleasant but there are many things that are so great that they will distract you from the bad parts of December.
